The body already knew
A working note on why embodiment is a research method, not a wellness category.
If I had to write a single sentence about why I keep returning to the body, it would be this: the body already knew, and what we call insight is just the slow translation of bodily knowing into language.
I am cautious with this claim. There are bodily sensations that are not wisdom — they are trauma, or hunger, or weather. Not every signal from the body deserves obedience. But almost every important thing I have known about myself, I knew first in the body. I just took years to find the words.
What I am tracking in this research thread:
- The lag time between somatic knowing and verbal knowing (in my own logs, about 18 months on average for major shifts).
- Which embodied practices reliably shorten that lag time without forcing it.
- Where embodiment work becomes spiritual bypassing — performing presence instead of being present.
This is not the body as a wellness category. It is the body as a research method.
